Similar to many of today’s styles, the baby sized doll is one of those items that have undergone the fashion cycle. This flattering and cute top was a popular style of lingerie during the 1960s-70s, and now has made its way back into the closets of several women. This time, however, in place of being part of a set of pajamas, the baby doll tunic is mainly worn as a casual top.

Baby dolls, also recognized as babydolls, first hit the scene of fashion in the 1950s as a loose fitting, short nightgown. It had formed bra cups along with a flowing bodice that fell freely to the hips. The style of nightgowns varied, from the very sheer to the more traditional cotton styles. Baby dolls were short-sleeved, cap-sleeved or sleeveless. It is said that fashion style arrived from the title of the 1956 movie, Baby doll, which popularized this unique design of lingerie.

Another most favored style by the similar name is the baby doll dress. Designed for resembling an infant doll’s dress, baby dolls are basically short and are usually worn with matching bloomers trimmed with lace or ruffles. They are decorated with appliqués or bows, and are worn as a part of an exotic lingerie wardrobe.

Fast forward to the 21^st century, when every woman, along with plus-sized, are being more bold with what they wear. A plus sized baby doll tunic enables you to bring the sexiness of lingerie into daily clothing. Tunics range in length from the hips to mid-thigh and are available in wide array of styles.

Though baby doll are a sweet style, they are not for everyone, particularly full-figured gals. Those ladies whose bust is smaller as compared to their mid-section may feel as if they are wearing maternity tops in place of a usual plus size tunic. However, gals whose figure is more apple shaped or even hourglass shaped, a baby doll top will certainly emphasize their curves.

Simply because an item is in style doesn’t mean that you have to buy it because odds are, all pieces will not be suitable on everyone. You need to choose and look for a style that fits your body and your requirements. But try to have with it.
